Gravel Bike Fit
A full gravel and adventure bike fit to dial your position for rough terrain, long rides and bikepacking. More control, more comfort, less fatigue.
Ride further, rougher and more in control
Gravel and adventure riding ask different things from your body than pure road. You’re on rougher surfaces, often for longer, with bags, bigger tyres and sometimes a dropper – and your position needs to balance control, comfort and efficiency.
A trainSharp Gravel Bike Fit is designed specifically around that kind of riding: lanes, bridleways, singletrack, bikepacking and long mixed-surface days.
All fits take place at our studio in Shortgate Industrial Park, near Lewes in East Sussex, easy to reach from Lewes, Uckfield, Brighton, Eastbourne and the wider South East.
Who this fit is for
A gravel fit is ideal if you:
- Have a gravel or adventure bike that just doesn’t feel quite right
- Get numb hands, sore neck/shoulders, lower back ache or saddle discomfort off-road
- Are planning bikepacking trips, ultra events or long days on bridleways and lanes
- Switch between road and gravel and want a position that makes sense for both
- Want more confidence and stability on descents, loose corners and technical sections
If your main riding is on dirt/gravel rather than tarmac, this will suit you better than a pure road fit.
What’s included in a Gravel Bike Fit
Rider interview & assessment
We start with a chat about:
How and where you ride (local loops, South Downs, bikepacking, races etc.)
- Your goals; comfort, control, speed, multi-day riding
- Any injuries, aches or past issues
- What’s currently bothering you on the bike
Then we do a simple off-the-bike assessment:
- Posture and flexibility
- Leg length and basic range of motion
- Foot position and any obvious asymmetries
On-the-bike fit session
Your gravel bike goes on the turbo so we can work in a controlled environment before translating it back to real-world riding.
We’ll typically work through:
- Saddle height and setback
- Set for efficient pedalling and stability when the surface gets sketchy
- Saddle choice and tilt
- To reduce pressure and keep you comfortable on long mixed-terrain rides
- Cleat position and stance width (if you use clipless)
- Fore–aft, rotation and width adjusted for comfort and control when seated and out of the saddle
- Reach and handlebar drop
- Stem length, spacer stack and bar rotation tuned for confident descending and all-day comfort
- Handlebar choice and flare
- Advice on bar width/flair for stability and control on rough terrain
- Control setup
- Brake/shift lever position so you feel secure on the tops, hoods and drops
We’ll use video and our fitter’s eye to refine your posture and weight distribution, making sure you feel balanced front-to-rear rather than pitched over the front wheel.
Position data & aftercare
You’ll leave with:
- Full before and after measurements
- Saddle height, setback, bar reach/drop, lever position etc.
- Clear advice on any recommended parts
- For example: different bars, stem, saddle, tyres or dropper post
- Guidance on how your gravel position relates to your road bike position, if you have both
Like our road fits, we treat fitting as a process, not a one-off. After a few weeks of riding, if you feel you need small tweaks, we offer a free re-tweak session to fine-tune the position.
